Duluth's American Castle, Glensheen MansionDubbed Duluth's American Castle, Glensheen Mansion is located at the University of Minnesota Duluth. The 7.6 acre estate built in the early 1900's by Chester A. Congdon as his family home is now a museum which is open to the public year round.Visitors can choose to take a one hour guided tour of the family living and work spaces or a two hour guided tour which includes all three floors of the mansion and its attic. Visitors are also welcome to skip the tour and simply explore open parts of the grounds for a less expensive rate. Touring the mansion is not the only activity visitors can enjoy. The mansion hosts several special brunches and dinners throughout the year on days such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. Each summer, the estate hosts Glensheen's Festival of Fine Art and Craft where talented artists from throughout the region display and sell their art and participate in a juried art exhibit. Glensheen mansion is located on Lake Superior and during favorable weather there are concerts and theater events by the lake. Glensheen has indoor and outdoor facilities for private and corporate events. The estate is also a popular venue for weddings. Brides and grooms find the mansion, the beautiful manicured gardens, and the views of Lake Superior to be an ideal location for their special day. Glensheen Mansion is located at 3300 London Road in Duluth. Hours of operation vary seasonably. |
