Duluth HikingIt would be impossible to list all of the great hiking trails and stops in and around Duluth, Minnesota, they are simply too numerous. A complete guide, including color coded trails and marked trailheads, is available from the Parks and Recreation office on Fourth Street in Duluth.The Lester River Trail is a great family recreation area with trails that are passable by nearly all levels. Lester River Trail is just under a mile in all and crosses Lester River a few times. Congdon Park Trail is great for outdoorsmen and women that enjoy the sights and sounds of running water. As you traverse over the 1.5 mile trail, you'll pass a number of water falls, rapids and pools of the Tischer Creek. In the vicinity of University of Minnesota are the trailheads of Chester Park Trail. This is a challenge to hike but the views are worth it. Rare wildflowers and plants dot the two miles of terrain. A plethora of trails, from easy to very challenging, wind through the landscape of Hartley Park. With more than 600 acres of forest and wetlands, Hartley Park is a hiker's paradise. Be careful, though, hikers share the trails with bikes and dog walkers. The Waterfront Trail follows the St. Louis River and passes through a number of neighborhoods along the water's edge. This trail is a full five miles and it is paved. Beginners or those that prefer a city hike will really enjoy this one. |
