North Shore Minnesota Scenic DrivesLake Superior's North Shore is picturesque and historical, begging for highway travelers to discover all it has to offer.Start your North Shore scenic drive in Duluth at Canal Park. Head to downtown Duluth and stop at the Fitger's Brewery Complex to browse through the many shops and restaurants in this historic building. Head to Leif Erikson Park next, getting out to walk through the popular rose garden. Follow the signs for the North Shore Scenic Drive as you proceed toward Two Harbors. Don't rush along these parts, take a moment to enjoy the Home Town USA feel of the small towns along the way. You'll pass over six rivers along the way as well. Stop at the 3M Museum as you travel through Two Harbors. Pause to gaze at the enormous ore docks at the water's edge. Continue on Highway 61 until you come to hiking trailheads. This is a wonderful place to get out and smell the wild flowers. Views of Burlington Bay will return the serenity you deserve when you're on vacation. Continue on the remainder of the North Shore Scenic Drive through Castle Danger to the Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. Another pit stop and tour before you end day one of your scenic drive at Tetteouche State Park to camp or to the quaint town of Little Marais for an evening stay in a hotel. Little Marais is an artist's haven and festivals featuring all sorts of mediums abound year round. Day two will lead you through Superior National Forest and to Grand Marais. What Little Marais is for artists Grand Marais is for outdoorsmen and women. Touring Cook County Historical Museum is a nice way to spend the afternoon. Back to your vehicle and continue north to Canada and Grand Portage National Monument. Your scenic drive has just begun! |
